In addition to the comment I added earlier I must point out that your final sentence is very poorly constructed: "Maybe if journalists has less cushy deals they'd be able to relate better to economically stressed American families that they cover."
Maybe if you hired an editor, and paid them, you would produce sentences better than the one quoted above? Journalists, dear writer, "have." A singular journalist "has." It is also difficult to see how an economically disadvantaged journalists would do anything save agree with the editorial position of the newspaper for which he or she works. The poorer we are the less agency and independence we have.
