Without the stimulus, hundreds of thousands of teachers, firefighters and policeman would have lost their jobs. People need jobs, the private sector is not providing them, so government should ramp up temporary employment to get us through this downturn (yes, deficit spend). Deficit spending got us out of the Great Depression in the form of World War II, it could do it again. I think we may need a few hardworking young people on the gulf coast right about now. . .
