I will concede that not everyone opposing the mosque is an anti-Muslim bigot, but the arguments against it taken to their logical conclusion are bigoted. Giving the benefit of the doubt, not everyone has fully thought things through.

McGurn does not make the case why one segment of Muslims should be punished for the sins of the extremists. The key difference here is of course who is doing the pressuring. In the case of the Nuns cited in the article, it was from within the Catholic Church that John Paul II pressured them to move from Auschwitz. With the mosque, it is the most reactionary elements of the far (mostly Christian) right that is pressuring the mosque to move.

I have never been as proud as I was of Mayor Bloomberg who said it so well. Freedom of Religion is what this country stands for, and any effort to curtail it must be fought head on.
