Mr. Stoll,

I think you may be right about the political response. This farce will play out until Mr. Obama picks-up his prize in December. Afterwards it will be ridiculed as a "participation trophy" from Oslo in consolation for the big loss at Copenhagen. Even without the ridicule, the circumstances only serve to make him look weak and undeserving all-round.

Will it haunt him politically if war breaks-out as a result of American lack of resolve? I think it may, by aggavating that sense of "buyer's remorse."

Your point about the domestic agenda, too... One effect would be that a lot of folks would be spared feelings of guilt, as it were, in that now he has the Big Prize, he can afford to take a hit from Congress. It eases the pressure to oppose.

Such a waste.

Both he and the accolade would have benefitted tremendously had he respectfully declined in abeyance, requesting time for real advances and substantive justification. Naw... This man is hooked on the cheap thrill of sycophantic approval.
