This farce will play out until Mr. Obama picks-up his prize in December. Afterwards it will be ridiculed as a "participation trophy" from Oslo in consolation for the big loss at Copenhagen. Even without the ridicule, the circumstances only serve to make him look weak and undeserving all-round. Will it haunt him politically if war breaks-out as a result of American lack of resolve? I think it may, by aggavating that sense of "buyer's remorse." Your point about the domestic agenda, too... One effect would be that a lot of folks would be spared feelings of guilt, as it were, in that now he has the Big Prize, he can afford to take a hit from Congress. It eases the pressure to oppose. Such a waste. Both he and the accolade would have benefitted tremendously had he respectfully declined in abeyance, requesting time for real advances and substantive justification. Naw...
