Here's one Obama judicial nominee that Republicans should have no problem supporting quickly for confirmation: Jesse Furman, nominated yesterday by Mr. Obama for a federal district judgeship on the Southern District of New York. Mr. Furman graduated the same year I did from the same college; he was editor of the liberal — or "progressive," as they called it — newspaper. Don't hold that against him, though; he also clerked for Judge Michael Mukasey and for Judge Jose Cabranes, and he also worked for Judge Mukasey when Judge Mukasey was President George W. Bush's attorney general.
If Mr. Obama follows Greg Mankiw's advice and also elevates Jesse's brother, Walmart defender Jason Furman, to the chairmanship of the National Economic Council, they'll be writing about the Furman brothers the way they do about the Emanuels and the Foers.
