Offshore drilling in the US makes up a tiny percentage of world oil production. So long as other countries continue their drilling, it doesn't seem like the prices will be affected greatly (at least not enough to overcome larger supply/demand dynamics). It would mean we become more dependent on foreign suppliers. If ever there were a time to institute a gas tax, something that those on the far right and far left can agree on (so long as it is revenue neutral), this is it.
