Reader comment on: The New York Times Discovers the Boy Scouts

Submitted by Jeff (United States), Aug 1, 2010 09:25

The Boy Scouts, long under the control of the rabidly anti-gay Mormon Church, took their right to bar gays from Scouting all the way to the Supreme Court. That is about as clear cut as it can get. The ban applies to both leaders and young men in the Scouts. The author of this piece needs to do a bit more research before thinking that it only applies to out gay leaders.

While the author says that he was not asked about his orientation, presumably he talked about his interest in girls and who to date, etc. So he was subtly discussing his orientation. It happens all the time.

I was a Scout too many years ago, but I can't fault anyone but the BSA for letting their agenda get in the way of allowing ALL boys to participate in the experience.
