Douthat is the NY Times idea of a conservative, just as David Brooks is PBS's idea of a conservative. I don't know if Douthat voted for Obama, but we know that Brooks did, and the similarities don't end there in terms of their advocacy of some positions that even Harry Reid would find comforting. I keep waiting for Douthat's column to have a disclaimer at the bottom saying "I'm not actually a conservative but I play one for the media." Douthat saw what happened to Bill Kristol when he wrote things that offended the Times lefty readers and no doubt wants his employment contract to last longer than a year.
