If you goto the Statistical Abstract of the US and look at mean and median household income (adjusted for inflation) you will see median is flat and mean or average has steadily cimbed since 1973. Put the info in excel and make a graph to see how income has remained stagnent for 80% of Americans for 35 years while total income has sky rocketed.

Based on that info the news from the Census folks is not new and it surprises me that folks are acting like it is.
