I would prefer to sacrifice some individual liberty in the form of higher taxes to know that the poorest among us have healthcare, a place to sleep and food to eat. I am for equality of opportunity, not equality of outcomes (so long as everyone has their most basic needs met). But we do not have equality of opportunity in this country by any stretch of the imagination.
