It aborbed one of the largest banks in Houston, the Texas Commerce Bank, today it has a 48% market share in Houston with 227 branches in Houston Area, 200 branches in DFW and 555 branches state wide being about 11% of total branches. It has 704 branches in New York for example. So by number of branches Texas is fairly close. (Not so large in San Antonio as it appears it did not merge with a local bank there.) Texas used to forbid branch banking BTW. Jp Morgan has the most assets in Texas also. (at least in 2012 could not find immediatly a more recent number) Wells Fargo has the largest number of branches in total in Texas partly due again absorption of banks during the great Texas Bank Failure mode.
