The Over-financialization of the American Economy

Reader comment on: JP Morgan Chase Jobs To Texas

Submitted by Ron B Liebermann (United States), Nov 12, 2019 20:19

J.P. Morgan Chase is not a symbol of American success. It's a symbol of American failure. Yes, I know that financial firms are necessary in a capitalist economy. But not to the extent which we have now. Running numbers does not create value. Those guys are just playing a giant poker game. And while Wall Street con-men walk away with billions, our factories disappear. This can't go on forever. Nowadays people get paid for talking, not for working. And let's be honest: Wall Street is fake anyway. Insiders get important information months before it appears on the news. So let's cancel Wall Street for twenty years; and tell people that money has to be earned, not stolen.
