Reader comment on: Matt Taibbi on Trump

this is your premise:

"Instead of crafting a coherent, accessible plan to address the despair and cynicism that moved voters to even consider someone like Trump in the first place . . .."

This premise is so off the mark and, frankly, dumb, any analysis coming from it cannot be useful. Analyzing what passes for "news reporting" these days, which is on tilt as being on tilt is something even Matt Taibbi can do. It's just the proverbial blind squirrel stumbling on the nut. If instead one could see that Trump presents a measure of hope and indeed the absence of despair, one could start to get at what's wrong in the hearts of Democrats. And what is wrong is that that they feed on despair and create it as their fuel. The cynicism comes from having a modicum observational skill about all the fakery and faux solemnity of the troughs, sewers, and tax sluices that are the federal government and the sorts of people it both attracts and produces, while those purporting to speak for (or purporting to help) one's own so-called "conservative" side can only talk about some long-deceased tax raising politician from California from decades ago as they very obviously and publicly failed to even conserve the girl's bathroom, and amount to enforcers of progressive orthodoxy + about 7 years.
