It was the way he conducts himselfReader comment on: Why Trump Lost Submitted by Thaddeus Perry (United States), Dec 18, 2020 21:32 I don't think the President lost because of any issues. Absent the pandemic, he probably would have won. Even with the pandemic, if he had acted like he believed a grave crisis was upon us and he was taking it seriously -- e.g. consistently worn a mask, etc. -- I believe he could have won. I am not talking about substance, but appearance. Governor Cuomo arguably caused many unnecessary deaths by ordering nursing homes to accept Covid patients, but he's applauded because people think he takes it seriously. Here in Indiana our governor, Eric Holcomb, won reelection easily, despite claims from the Democrats that he should have done more and claims from the conservative wing of the Republicans that he was doing too much. People thought he took it seriously and were content to let him handle it and keep handling it. They weren't interested in arguing about the details of policy. Trump shut down China travel early and successfully pushed for a quick vaccine. It wasn't the substance. It was that he didn't give the appearance of being concerned. Trump is a television performer. I assume he can appear grave and concerned if he wants to. He didn't choose to. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing. Other reader comments on this item
