Perhaps they didn't give enoughReader comment on: The Giving Pledge, 'Giving Back,' and Government Submitted by ben (United States), Dec 9, 2010 12:57 Perhaps acknowledging that they should give back proves a point I have made many times. The wealthiest play a much smaller role in their own success than society generally credits them (and the poor are less personally responsible for being poor than they are blamed). If the upper tax rate were 90%, perhaps we wouldn't hear them say this. When taxes are in the 30 percent range, they know they are getting a good deal from society at large, and therefore they feel the need to give back. Perhaps they realize their "take" far outweighs the effort they put in, and they realize this and feel some guilt about it. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
