The human traits of "envy" and "pride" exist. It is our fallen nature. How the individual responds to those impulses separate socialists from capitalists. Political solution is one way which says that the economy and wellbeing is a zero sum game. So to better one's lot in life, the solution is power and political. The capitalist takes a different approach. It is non based on political power but rather on freedoms to innovate to meet a market need. The invisible hand of the market is the power and not the state, elected or otherwise. Improving one's lot is based on success in meeting market needs. And for the most part, it is not a zero sum game. Capitalism creates. Socialism redistributes though coercion. Socialism is run by elites who in their hubris, think they know everything better than the other person. Control and power are their trademarks. Not so for the capitalists. Rewards are doled out by the invisible hand of the market where there are millions of votes every day that select this product or service over another.
