I very much agree, I think that Government is not the answer and that the private sector would be more efficient at providing those services. As long as the Government puts its seal of approval on stuff, people do not think for themselves and just become dependent on Government making decisions for them. The FDA comes to mind. I also agree with your above example on the FAA, etc.

I think it's because of Government interference that we are facing the current economic problems. Look at the cost of health care and how it significantly increased since Congress pushed the HMO system on us through the HMO Act of 1972/3. Or how the home loan and student loan guarantees allow for the cost of housing and education to increase.

I don't know if you had a chance to listen to Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico, but his speech is well worth the time listening.
