Reader comment on: Wind Energy Fail

Submitted by ben (United States), Mar 23, 2011 14:36

I am sure the shrapnel from the one turbine has contaminated the soil and renders the area unlivable for generations? Or perhaps it destroyed the whole fishing industry or the lake nearby?

This is false equivalence. The scale of the problem associated with solar or wind pales in comparison to oil or nuclear. We do not pay the full costs of nuclear or oil in the price of energy, but we do pay in the form of clean up costs, damaged industries and quality of life. We must price the negative externalities of fossil and nuclear fuels into the price so that the market can function as it should.
