Confusing weather and climate

Reader comment on: On the Red Sox, an Expert Fail

Once again, we confuse weather and climate. Just because the Red Sox start off 1-7 doesn't mean they won't end up near 100 victories. It is like saying because we had a snowstorm in March, climate change must be false.

One should approach anything with skepticism, but if one is skeptical about climate change to the point of paralysis (we can never be totally sure of anything in life), then we risk many of the severe negative effects becoming reality after the point when we could have effectively addressed them. The climate, while complex, operates based on the laws of physics, so I would trust expert opinion on this far more than sports prognostications or economic modeling.
