H&M Castoffs

Reader comment on: The Times and H & M's Old Clothes

Submitted by Caroline (United States), Jan 8, 2010 10:52

H&M is paying New York taxes and contributing to the New York economy and consumers with its many local stores. As the producer and owner of the property, it is H&M's choice how to dispose of it. After trashing H&M for its "wasteful" policies, and publicizing the location of the free goods, I doubt that Cynthia Magnus will be finding more free H&M goods on the street, with or without slashes and holes. Further, it sounds like New York Cares is asleep at the switch if they were not aware of all the potential free goods just around the block from their collection center.

The Times loves to opine on other corporations' greed and lack of "social responsibility," but I do not see any free New York Times being provided to the homeless or the unemployed or to graduate students picking through the garbage for their clothing.
