I appreciate the response. I just think it would have improved the column if somewhere in the 750 words you stuck in a sentence that said, "To be sure, even with the recent improvements, the South Bronx is one of the poorest neighborhoods in America, and much of the government spending here has gone to solve problems that government itself helped to create decades ago." It makes it less of what you call a comic book argument. Surely somewhere in the column you could have found room for that. As it is a Times reader has to read my blog, or your comment on my blog, to find those points.
