Where solar does make sense.

If your electricity is generated by diesel engines then solar electricity makes sense. That is a lot of Caribbean islands, as well as at least parts of Hawaii, and American Samoa. In Hawaii on the big Island residential electricity runs $.36/kwh and on Maui $.29 Molakai $.37, and on Kauai $.41. All of which solar can beat. (This is because oil is used for the energy). However this is not a big enough market for all the players in the game. The usual shakeout is occurring as to many folks played the third stage of Warren Buffet's game (innovator, imitator, idiot) One interesting fact I read is that for a solar installation cities tend to charge $2500 in permit fees.
