He could not have done otherwise

Reader comment on: Obama's Gift

I agree with the entire post. But a president with any savvy and any intent to actually accomplish something would not have made a speech at all. He would have spent the summer (and really the entire year after what happened last November) working in good faith with Republicans to come up with a workable, passable plan. Not trying to be clever. And certainly not trying to be the great law giver.

But Obama has little savvy. How could he have? he has no experience. And he has no idea how to actually accomplish something, because he never has had to before in his community organizer, "present" legislator career. He has bluffed and gabbed and faked his way through life. He is convinced all the ills of the world, and all his own problems, are caused by others. And it shows. He makes speeches, because that is all he knows how to do. He blames others for his failure to help the economy, because he has never had to accept responsibility for anything before. He has never had to produce.

The nation is forced to behold the stark reality of what it has brought upon itself by allowing itself to come under the spell of this hollow figure. Everyone winces when he speaks now. Well, wince they should. Obama will never learn anything. He's convinced he already knows everything important. The question is whether American voters will learn anything about themselves and how it is they gave up their critical faculties and voted for a silly mirage. Looking at Obama now, Americans should see a reflection of their own folly.
