Decriminalize marijuana

Reader comment on: 30 Cost-Free Job-Creating Ideas

There are hundreds of thousands of Americans who are unemployable, or underemployed, because of petty convictions for marijuana use or possession. Why not regulate marijuana as we do tobacco (marijuana is about an equal cancer risk) and alcohol (it's about equally destructive of its users' faculties)...?

Admittedly, this would put a lot of jailers, prison guards, district attorneys, and defense attorneys out of work, but surely some of the losses would be offset by removing the scarlet letter of a drug conviction from otherwise normal, making them employable.
