Obligation

Reader comment on: Steve Jobs' Charity

Submitted by Ralph (United States), Oct 7, 2011 09:16

Of course Steve Jobs does not have to give a cent of his money to anyone. And of course that doesn't take away from the great benefits he bestowed on society.

But why assume discussion related to Jobs' lack of charity is meant to belittle his many achievements?

It is not.

The fact remains that many believe it's important to give. It doesn't matter how much you have. Giving to the less fortunate is an often stated value in our society. And although this great man symbolized many things, he seemed to have a curious and obvious objection to charitable giving.

This has nothing to do with the economic system of capitalism. No one's asking for handouts. Steve could've donated his time alone if he saw fit.

But at any rate...

RIP Steve Jobs. You did well.
