Reader comment on: How To Regulate Bank Capital

Repeal the acts of 1863, 1864 and 1865, that created a national currency. Let any bank issue as much currency as it can get away with, in combination with the states letting anyone who wants to open a bank. After all this creates a business opportunity for a currency detector web site to determine which notes are genuine and what their value is. Essentially the situation from 1836 to 1863-65 was totally free banking and if we want to decontrol banking lets go all the way. BTW also go back to a silver standard as we had at the time, make the west boom, after all Nevada was admitted to the union so that the silver from the comstock financed the civil war. Apparently there is a good bit of metal left in the old mining camps, that was not economic at $1 per ounce, but might be in this situation. (Above somewhat tongue in cheek)
