Ira, I don't think you can lump me in with the paternalists. In fact, I wrote a book more than 10 years ago about giving Americans more personal control and decision making power in government. (The Next Deal, http://www.amazon.com/Next-Deal-Future-Public-Information/dp/0465009727/ref=tmm_pap_title_0). I'm off from Democracy now, as you indicated, on other adventures but even while there I didn't agree with everything in our pages -- the point was to spark debate. Glad that Ethan Porter's piece did that!
