Studies show that fructose is as bad as booze for the body.Reader comment on: FutureOfCapitalism on TV Submitted by Lyle (United States), Mar 24, 2010 17:31 We tax booze as a sin tax, clearly over all we need more revenue why not a sin tax on sugar beverages? Or would you rather have an income tax hike? Just like I believe we should legalize all drugs that do not make one violent directly (that is no crystal meth) but Weed and opiates and cocaine and then tax them. It worked to tamp down crime after the 20s so why not try it with drugs now? Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing. The Future of Capitalism replies: I don't agree that NY State needs more tax revenue. It consistently is in the top two in the Tax Foundation's annual survey of highest state-local tax burdens. People are moving out of the state to lower tax destinations like Fla. and Conn. If proposal was to cut other taxes (income, sales) by amount of sugary drink tax then I would be more open to it.
