The purpose of roads is for folks and things to get from place to place. Consider on street parking were owned by a private organization. The city should be able to make money, just like a private organization, a good comprimise would be to add a .50 cent fee to the charge that went to the city. Its just like a food truck tends to use parking spaces longer than intended, and should pay the city for the parking space.
