Change of Plaintiff

Reader comment on: Who Put Spitzer on the AIG Case?

Submitted by Thomas Brieger (United States), May 2, 2015 13:58

I believe that the original lawsuit was jointly filed by the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Insurance Department Superintendent. Since that time the Insurance Department entered into a merger resulting in its being incorporated into the NYS Department of Financial Services.

That said, I see no evidence that the NYS DFS remains part of the lawsuit. I wonder what its current position on the matter is.

As an aside, I have heard it said that after Mr. Greenberg left AIG, the new management radically increased its use of derivatives, leading to the Company's troubles. I have not seen evidence as to whether this is true or not.
