Dylan Matthews is unconvincingReader comment on: Trump's Immigration Plan Submitted by David in Cal (United States), Aug 17, 2015 13:40 Thanks for the link. I found Matthews' support for increased immigration unconvincing, because 1. It gave specific examples where immigration was a benefit, but left out areas where it's the reverse, such as the increased burden on infrastructure and social safety net 2. Numbers matter.125,000 immigrants may be no problem, but that doesn't speak to 41 million, the current estimated number of immigrants in the US 3, Matthews didn't address legal vs illegal. Illegal immigration involves contempt for our laws and implies no limit on the number of immigrants. 4. Type of immigrant. Mariel boat people may be different from Central American imigrants. And, legal immigration gives us tools to choose the types of immigrants who will most benefit our country. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
