Our decision to remain in NATO must be governed by two principles: (i) Our duty to remain under international law, and (ii) our best interests. Our best interest is either (i) economic and (ii) survival as a nation.

Applying the above, I'd want t know whether exiting NATO is akin to breaching a contract or whether there are mechanics to end treaty involvement without doing a "bad act" such as breaching a contract. If we could get out of NATO, then we should unless it is in our best interests to remain.

Even if we remain, we should renegotiate terms so that the costs of NATO are born by the members on some rational basis. If we do so, I suspect the costs to us would decline substantially.

My gut tells me that NATO is a very bad deal for us right now.
