With the reduction in the size of the journalistic work force specialists in various areas have disappeared only generalists are left, So they have to report on society matters, crime, politics, diversity, business, or show business without knowing any thing about the general area. Further they are not allowed to specialize to and to take the time to acquire knowledge by reading. But then American journalism is returning to its roots in general as partisan, which until the 1850s was the way it worked, so the bosses set the slant on items.
