The letter essentially threatened to sue for defamation of character etc so it was essentially like the threats Trump made to the women who said they were sexually abused by Trump. As one piece pointed out once you file suit you open the doors to voluminous discovery, ranging up to depositions from Trump himself. So just like in the prior case it was an empty threat as filing suit would be worse for Trump than not filing.
