Ira,

Yes, we all know that 21% of GDP is a larger federal gov't than we'd like to have. But for the first time since the Cold War ended, our Republic is in mortal danger from the Debt Bomb. Government spending balanced with revenue at almost ANY level would be cause for champagne toasts.

I think the expansion of government is in its own way as big a threat as the debt, as would be the growth-killing effects of higher taxes imposed to balance the budget at any cost.
