There's unfortunately too much truth behind the saying, "Those that can, do, those who can't, teach [and those that can't teach, teach teachers]." ". . . so long as the pay increases are linked to increases in teacher quality, performance, and accountability." That works for me, along with eliminating tenure and testing all teachers for basic competence in their subject fields.
