According to the declaration of independence, the entire point of government is to promote the safety and happiness of the people, so yes, we would be wise to prioritize our safety and happiness over the desire of commercial interests to make a profit. Our safety and happiness must be the ultimate goal of commerce and commercial growth that is not a means to the ends that are our safety and happiness, is likely to be growth that will cause more harm than good.
