I think that Americans might have supported U.S. Representative Ron Paul's position when shortly after 9/11/01, he spoke to his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives.

He advocated that we send troops only to capture and kill Osama bin Laden and then to immediately return home.

If we had followed his sage advice, we would not be facing problems now.
