I agree with this post. But we are looking at this in the wrong way. Renewable energy is not economical because its competitor does not pay its full costs. Fossil fuels are far more expensive to the country than their price indicates. From defending oil rich countries, to paying for the negative effects of global warming, the fossil fuel industry does not pay its way. A free market approach to the problem is to tax carbon at a level that at least approaches its cost on society. This would make other energy sources more competitive. This should of course be phased in, and be revenue neutral for all I care.
