You're probably right that there are some decent folks in the NYC-DC-SF-LA axis (Come to think of it, Richard John Neuhaus was a New Yorker before he died) but the fact of the matter is that almost all of the liberal, elitist dreck comes out of those places by people who live and work there. If you haven't read it yet, you might want to check out Charles Murray's just-out book on the new American cultural divide called "Coming Apart: The State Of White America." It addresses these issues very well.
