Have you ever had occasion to be in a suburb on a cool fall night?Reader comment on: Pizza Compliance Costs Submitted by Lyle (United States), Mar 16, 2013 00:42 When there is no wind and everyone has a fire in the fireplace, the outside air reeks of wood smoke. In fact some communities have banned wood burning fireplaces for just the air pollution reason. It turns out wood smoke can be a carcinogen. Wood smoke also has small particulates. Thus given the air pollution problem of NYC its easy to see why wood smoke needs to be controlled. IN particular wood smoke is a problem on windless nights, and other cities have bans some days on wood fires because of an inversion. (Albuquerque). So wood smoke in large quantities is not as harmless as suspected. The question might be given the location involved how often is the wind still?
