Through advertising which is a key element of capitalism. It works on keeping up with the Joneses and creates desires that you might not otherwise have. The capitalist economy runs on this, creating the need for more and more stuff, otherwise we would have a great recession. A perfect example of this is Amazon's prime day whose advertising apparently has crashed their web site.
