Just because some rail lines run a deficit doesn't mean the entire rail industry is doomed. Some people just don't know how to budget things out. We shouldn't return to horse and buggy because certain officials are incompetent. How does Obama know we need high speed rail?, I don't know, maybe he sees the rest of the world (Even Russia) planning extensive high speed rail networks interconnected with light rail and other forms of transit. We had to swallow the idea of the Eisenhower Highway system, so why is it all of the sudden evil to accept High speed rail? Just look at how the highway system transformed this country. You can't ignore the need for new transportation ideas
