Better than Obama?Reader comment on: Fox-Google Republican Debate Submitted by Mwalimu Daudi (United States), Sep 23, 2011 00:42 Don't be too sure that any Republican would be better than Obama. Huntsman and Romney not only governed like Obama when they were in office, at times they sound just like him. And both may end up doing something that up until recently seemed impossible: make Obama look competent by comparison. Ron Paul was Code Pink's favorite candidate in 2008, but in 2011 he seems like a washed-up GOP version of George McGovern. Michele Bachmann is avidly pursuing the Jenny McCarthy voters (all six of them), and Gary Johnson reminds me too much of the potheads I knew in high school. Gingrich still has the hots for Nancy Pelosi and their infamous couch, and Santorum is fixated on gays in the military. Perry and Cain show promise, but the MSM and the GOP establishment will sabotage their campaign if either gets the nod. I know Obama is convinced that he will win a 57-state landslide in 2012. With folks like Romney or Huntsman at the top of the GOP ticket he may be right. I am tempted to look towards 2016 and hope that four more years of Obama will do less damage than the first four, but the GOP might suddenly decide that the person they need to win it all is Michael Moore. A party that thinks Romney is a credible Presidential candidate is a party in need of heavy-duty psychotherapy, and it is not that great a drop-off (in terms of political philosophy and hair style) to go from Mitt to Michael in four years.
