Reader comment on: The $430,000 Law Professor
in response to reader comment: Ms. Warren

Many commenters decry Prof Warren making $430,000.00 over two (2) years. First of all this is not a large salary for a top notch private law school of a world prestigious (some commenters may dislike this choice of mine) university. Second, she is a tenured Professor and an occupies an Endowed Chair. What is an Endowed Professorship. A wealthy indvidual/family or their foundation/trust donates a large sum of money to the university/college/school and in exchange for this donation an Endowed Chair/Professorship is created in a specific area. Faculty scholars in this area are awarded this Endowed Chair/Professorship every year or periodically. Now, all law school professors whether at Harvard or elsewhere are allowed to private legal practice, just like medical doctors who are faculties in medical schools practice their medical profession by seeing, diagnozing, and treating patients. Lastly college professors have been in government service and gone back to their academic work after they retire or quit government/public service. E.g. Prof Glenn Hubbard, Dean of Columbia University's School of Business, was Chairman of George W. Bush's Council of Economic Advisors, Prof Condaleeza Rice, Provost, Satanford University, was George W. Bush's National Security Advisor, and later Secretary of State, George Schultz, Hoover Institution, Stanford University, was Reagan's Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, Professor of Law at University of Kansa, is Mitt Romney's Immigration Advisor and also Secretary of State of The Great State of Kansas, and the list goes on. So cussing, cursing, heaping insults, insinuating academics who join government or go for public service is not right and all it shows is the ignorance and the emotional tirade of hatred against teachers. After all remember Harvard Law School Professor of Law, Alan Dershowitz who represented O.J. Simpson in his criminal trial, worked simultaneously as a Professor of Law and as a lawyer for O.J. Simpson.
