where is the accountability?Reader comment on: Infantino Baby Sling Lawyers Submitted by ben (United States), Mar 25, 2010 21:21 If we don't like lawyers suing businesses, and we don't want the government regulating business practice, where is the accountability? Are we going to rely entirely on fear that businesses lose money when they make a poor product, an outcome that could be delayed for years while a pattern of abuse is built? What about a business which decides it is better to let a few children die because it is in their business interests. Perhaps they calculate that using cheaper materials to build the sling and killing children (and losing some market share, but that is ok because it is the cheapest sling) is more profitable than upgrading the sling and saving lives. This might be a rational business decision, which has the effect of killing children. Historically, we have seen this same decision play out in many unregulated industries. The Future of Capitalism replies: Well, our current system features all three: regulators (consumer product safety commission); lawyers (see the google ads); and dead children. Ideas for improving it other than more, better regulators? Other reader comments on this item
