Reader comment on: Shlaes on Inflation

Submitted by Paul J (United States), Jul 18, 2014 17:04

Mr. Petroukis noted that MIT's analysis of the rate of change of the cost of "2 Billion Things" shows inflation at about 2%. You picked out the rate of change of cost of about 6 things and concluded the inflation rate must be much higher. Further, you picked out six things that you knew to have inflated fairly quickly. i.e. not typical.

If I said we're suffering massive deflation due to the ever decreasing cost of one item, computing power, would you agree with me? Or would you tell me my sample of items was too small to be valid?
