Shlaes conclusions confirm EVERYONE'S personal experienceReader comment on: Shlaes on Inflation Submitted by epaminondas (United States), Jul 19, 2014 05:58 I will be 65 in december. We own our home and cars, kids are out of the household. Thus 2 of our highly visible cost components are food and fuel. They NEVER decrease. Quoting the CPI index has a very limited utility when looking at the 200,000,000 (?) anecdotal household lives in the USA. We all do not buy the mix of product the way they are compiled by the 'same' people who decided you will never need to flush more than1.6 gallons. Movie prices have now increased so much (and that's disposable) we only go to see those 3D movies for which we can get senior discount-because we are so PISSED OFF. For us, when Coffee jumps 60%, and gas goes from $1.50-$4.00, when electricity was $130/month and now is DOUBLE that, that is OUR rate of inflation, not some indexed 1.5-2%. When a family goes to the market and looks at beef or (the healthier) fish prices, do you think they say 'But Krugman sez it's all just fine'? You might as well argue the world is more tranquil since 2009 (as this admin recently did) Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
