Response to CommentsReader comment on: The Traffic Paint Shortage Submitted by Free Market Observer (United States), Aug 20, 2010 11:36 In order to write a blog of this sort you should be informed about the facts. Sadly that is not the case here. I am employed in a management function in the paint and chemical industry and have firsthand knowledge. Government regulation is not in any way responsible. MMA is regulated by the FDA only to the extent that it affects consumer use. MMA is manufactured in Germany by one of its industrial giants. If it can be made in one of the most highly regulated countries in the world it can be made in the good ole USA. It is the free markets and the laws of supply and demand that caused the shortage. Demand shrunk, so the chemical industry shrunk with it. Demand is increasing, but not enough to justify the expenditure to start up mothballed plants. You can check your Econ 101 textbook for a further explanation. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
