Reader comment on: The Traffic Paint Shortage

Submitted by Raul (United States), May 24, 2010 17:53

We are seeing a shortage of methyl methacrylate due to plant closure but, Striper, we also had a drought in east Asia that produced a shortage in rosin eshters used to make thermoplastic (the alternative to methyl methacrylate). Without the ability to switch from MM to spray thermo governments and contractors are facing a real shortage of material. As for the toxicity of methyl metharylate, it is used in waterbourne traffic paint which the EPA views as preferable to oil based paint. You should correct that part of your argument at least.
